Our host site - Bursledon Brickworks Museum Trust

A museum of Brickmaking based in a former steam driven brickworks dating from 1897. The Hampshire Buildings Preservation Trust (HBPT) owns the site which is operated by Bursledon Brickworks Museum Trust. The site features displays covering the history of the brickworks, traditional building materials and conservation practice. The original stationary steam engine, powering the pugmill, has been restored to working order and operates on Open Days. The second, North Engine, has also been restored to working order during 2016.

Since 1994 the Railway Trust have offered assistance to the HBPT (site owners) and the museum to construct an industrial narrow gauge railway and demonstrate it to visitors using equipment from the Trust's collection. There now exists a 2 ft gauge mineral line also a passenger line and a 7¼” miniature passenger line to entertain younger visitors! The site now houses an extensive collection of narrow gauge equipment.
